Fly Forever was established to develop, encourage, promote, and publish reasonable standards for endurance kite flying. Our vision is to build a safe, competitive, and enjoyable space where enthusiasts can explore the art and endurance of long-flight kiting.

We believe endurance kite flying is not only a sport but a meaningful personal challenge that requires discipline, responsibility, and proper technique. Our mission emphasizes public safety, training, and compliance with applicable statutes and regulations.

Official Standards for Endurance Kite Flying

General Requirements

  • Fliers must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must be current members of the American Kite Fliers Association (AKA).

  • Kites must be flown safely to protect participants and the public.

  • Bystanders must stay clear of kite lines, anchors, and flying areas.

Equipment Requirements

  • Kites may be custom or commercially produced.

  • Kites must use a single, commercially available line.

  • No mechanical aids, only approved hand reels (halos, hand spools).

  • Max two kites allowed per endurance attempt.

Legal & Safety Compliance

  • All flights must follow AKA Rules & FAA regulations 14CFR Part 101).

  • Only fly on private/public property with proper permissions.

  • Only non-mechanical methods allowed – no towing by vehicles, no powered reels.

Timing & Verification

  • Each kite must be timed separately.

  • All timing must be witnessed by registered AKA members.

  • Sign-in/sign-out logs required with verified signatures.

  • A hard copy or secure digital flight record must be kept.

  • Timing starts when the kite clears the surface and ends when the kite or tail touches the ground/person.
